So you’re interested in Learning to Curl...
You’ve come to the right place!!!
Since 2013, we’ve successfully introduced over 200 curling enthusiasts to the wonderful sport of curling. Our program focuses on assisting each individual to progress at their own rate with the help of our team of 20 OCA trained volunteer coaches.
The program kicks off with a full-day orientation session typically the 3rd Saturday in October. Participants will work in small groups to get to know each other. In the morning you will be introduced to the basic rules, etiquette and some fundamentals of curling using a variety of videos, activities, and games. The afternoon will give you an opportunity to work with a coach on-ice to experience getting in the hack and delivering a rock, using a broom, stabilizer, and stick.
The subsequent sessions will continue to build skills on-ice and will focus on:
- developing balance on the ice
- delivering your stone using a stabilizer and stick
- sweeping techniques
- judging weight and line
- game strategy
The ice will be available for practice and remediation with coaches each week at 5:00 pm. While on the ice, participants will work with our coaches at a 4:1 ratio. Last year we introduced video analysis to the program and will do so again this year.
Following each session, curlers may relax and socialize in the lounge and, space permitting at the end of the program, those interested may join our Novice League in January 2020 for only $120 (plus hst) which runs on Wednesday evenings as well.
A fun spiel and graduation celebration concludes the program in December. The program fee of only $155.00 (plus hst) includes the use of the club brooms, stabilizers, and sliders.
We hope you’ll decide to give curling a shot and let us help you develop the skills you need to enjoy the game.
